PETTS WOOD MAY QUEEN GROUP

2007

LOCAL GROUP RAISES £150 FOR CHARITY IN JUST 30 MINUTES!

Last May with the help of local residents and traders, the Petts Wood May Queen group collected an amazing £150 during their 30 min parade through Petts Wood. The May Queen Group was joined by Girls Brigade and a colourful Clog Dancing Group, as they paraded from the Newshopper building to the Memorial Hall.

The money was donated to Petts Wood Special Needs Children's Playgroup at the Christ Church Hall. This special group provides free pre-school education for children with special needs, where they are able to learn through play. The playgroup helpers are mainly local volunteers and most of its income is from voluntary contribution.

The May Queen Parade that brings all elements of our Petts Wood community together. The local Police ensures our safety, the Memorial Hall (which by the way was donated to the local community after the war) provides the hall for a children's party, a local florist (Flower Moments) made the Queen's bouquet, and a beautiful display quilt was made by the ladies from a local quilting group (Doremouse Quilts). This is to name but a few, over the years local businesses have kindly donated raffle prizes and given money to our charity collections.

This year the group will be parading on Saturday 5th May, there will be a clog dancing display and a children's party. If you are interested in joining Petts Wood's May Queen Group, the group would welcome boys or girls from the age of 3 - 12yrs. All outfits are supplied, it does not involve a lot of time or money but it is GREAT fun.

If any local groups such as brownies, guides, dance clubs, bands etc would like to join this parade the more the merrier.

Local businesses if you think you can help us please contact us or show us your support by putting up the posters we will be distributing in the spring. We hope to help local businesses by bringing people into Petts Wood for the Parade and the Fete in the Memorial Gardens during this year's May Bank holiday weekend.
